Set on 300 acres, the cottage overlooks our native forest, grasslands and Mt Kooroocheang. Moorakyle Retreat is a relaxing, stylish and comfortable getaway. The cottage is fully self contained and set apart from the main house, modern, well appointed and filled with natural light. We are just 15 minutes from Daylesford and touring distance for all that the lovely central highlands can offer.

The space

”Not only is this 5 star accommodation it’s way more than that. It’s a place of dedicated love and compassion for over 100 rescued animals. The cottage is cosy, tastefully decorated and is set in a perfect location of tranquility and beauty. The king size bed and superior linen was a treat of luxury. …We highly recommend this retreat as it’s way more than just an escape to the country.’

A deep veranda overlooks our creek, a lovely dam, and the native forest beyond. Our rescue animals are nearby and most evenings the kangaroos will come out of the forest to graze.

The kitchen is fully equipped, including basic provisions.

After a relaxing day, sleep in superbly comfortable king size bed with high quality bedding and linen.

‘A sanctuary for animals and people alike!! …. far exceeded all possible expectations. …..every possible touch to make our stay special- the wine, roaring fire, music and fresh flowers throughout were so appreciated after a long drive! The cottage is absolutely divine, beautifully appointed with stunning views and an array of gorgeous and curious rescue animals all around- we particularly loved our visits from Poppy the cat! Easy touring distance from Daylesford and Ballarat, this property ticks all the boxes for a perfect peaceful country escape and we can’t wait to return!! ‘

You have the cottage to yourselves, set in the garden with a pretty paved and shady court yard.

Take a walk in the forest….60 acres of native trees, grasses and seasonal wildflowers. We know you will respect the native plants and animals in our care. Many will be around for you to meet. Please note we do not allow free access to all areas.

The local pub (fantastic food) does take away. Bookings are required for most local eateries at this time due to reduced seatings.

This is a rural area. You need a car to get here and to get around. Taxis are not always available and Uber is not an option!

The Region

”This is the best AirBnB we have ever stayed at. The perfect getaway. The house is extremely comfortable among the incredibly peaceful surroundings, with the local pub just 5 minutes away serving beautiful food. We will definitely be returning on a regular basis. We love where we live! We are close to many beautiful areas to explore, while being secluded. On clear nights the stars are intense. We can see the skies all around, the mountains and hills, the forests and waterways.

Nearby is a local, family run winery and organic vegetable farm and a fantastic local pub. Daylesford and the surrounding hamlets offer a vast array of restaurants, cafes, galleries, local artisans, spa treatments, markets, festivals and events most weekends.

There are lovely lakes and gardens to visit, walking trails, cycle rides, wineries to visit as well as a local cidery! Within close touring distance is Castlemaine, Maldon, Woodend, Macedon, Trentham, and Ballarat, all offering so much to see and do you will have trouble choosing. Or you can stay at home and take in the peace and beauty here.

‘The cottage was even more stunning than we expected. Beautiful rooms with special touches throughout. Waking up to a view over the farm and forest every morning was a real treat. The bed is super comfortable. Poppy the cat kept our laps warm whenever we sat on the deck, and being able to wander off into the forest where we saw kangaroos and echidnas was really special. One of the most relaxing getaways we’ve ever had.’

Important. Please read before booking

• As our property is also home to our registered farm animal rescue, we are a meat free venue. All provisions are plant based.

• We clearly love animals, however, cannot accept your pets here for your stay. We have to prioritise the welfare of the over 150 animals here in our care.

• Accommodation is for two adults (king size bed). Due to farm property hazards we cannot accept infants/children under 15 yo as guests.

• Strictly no parties, no additional guests, no smoking/vaping, and we do not allow service providers (eg massage) on site. No swimming in the dams.

• Mobile (cell) ‘phone coverage can be limited in this area. Guests are advised to use ‘Telstra’ for the best coverage.

• As NBN is not available at this location, we have a 4G Nighthawk (portable wifi) for use by guests. Speeds are variable. We can provide a HDMI connection for the TV if you wish to stream via your laptop. Please note however, wifi is not always reliable here.

• We have lovely fresh rainwater from our tanks. We ask that you are careful with water use. Although there is a bath in the cottage, we ask that guests take showers.

• We are in a rural location, with all the peace and quiet that brings. Please ensure the location is right for you.

• Your booking is not confirmed until payment in full is received. Payment via Paypal or direct debit accepted.

Cancellation policy

• To receive a full refund, guests must cancel within 48 hours of booking, and the cancellation must occur at least 21 days before check-in
